5-Ingredient Slow Cooker Cinnamon Applesauce

You might not think of applesauce as being one of those things you need to make. I mean, Mott’s has a pretty good corner on the market right? But I’m hear to tell you, as someone who has made 4 batches in 2 weeks this 5-Ingredient Slow Cooker Cinnamon Applesauce is the stuff of dreams. Hand to God, I’m eating a small bowl of it right now, fresh out of the slow cooker, as a late night snack! It’s 6 hours of hands off time in the slow cooker and leaves your home smelling phenomenal. What more could a girl ask for?

I’m calling it “5-Ingredient Slow Cooker Cinnamon Applesauce” but to be honest I don’t even think water and salt technically count as ingredients. So it’s really 3 ingredients and no added sugar. You heard me right. NO. ADDED. SUGAR! And it tastes like it was kissed by angels. (That’s a thing right?) So yes, you need to make applesauce when angels are involved.

And if you need further convincing as to how easy and tasty this recipe is, I went in to my youngest’s classroom and all 20 of her classmates helped make AND devour it. They were so enthusiastic about cooking they jumped right in! Peeling apples and using THIS apple slicer to make quick work of it. We ended up making a quadruple batch, split between 2 slow cookers, and THEY ATE IT ALL.

Now what to do with this at home, besides eat it out of the slow cooker like a savage? Add a big scoop to a jar of overnight oats. Stir some into a warm bowl of oatmeal. Top a thick slice of toasted banana bread with a dollop. Or do what I do and warm up a bowl for an after-dinner treat. This 5-Ingredient Slow Cooker Cinnamon Applesauce will become an instant hit in your kitchen. Make a batch and watch it disappear!

  • Author: rock + paper + skillet
  • Prep Time: 10 minutes
  • Cook Time: 6 hours
  • Total Time: 6 hours 10 minutes
  • Yield: 12

Ingredients

  • 4 pounds apples (a mix of Gala, Granny Smith & Golden Delicious work best), peeled, cored and sliced
  • Juice from 1/2 lemon
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 cup water

Instructions

  1. Add all the ingredients to your slow cooker and stir to combine. Place lid on top and cook on Low for 6 hours.
  2. When applesauce is finished cooking turn the slow cooker to OFF. Using a stick blender or regular blender blend applesauce to your desired texture. For a chunkier texture use a stick blender and don’t blend completely. For a smoother texture use a regular blender and blend in batches. Be sure to vent the top of the blender to let the steam escape. Or to avoid rogue applesauce burns just let the mixture cool down before blending.

In other news I’m getting ready to pack up the kids and head back to the Midwest for some summer fun in the Kansas sun! I’ll keep you up on Instagram but the blog will be pretty quiet until July. Happy summer y’all!
