Whole30 Round 2: Preview

I’m about ready to embark on my second Whole30 tomorrow and I’m actually more excited than I am nervous! I have a plan for food. I have goals I’ve written out. And most importantly, I’m in a really good mental place to focus on the positive and minimize the negative.

What does that mean exactly? It means that in my food planning I’ve simplified. I’ve written out meal ideas and prepped some basics so that I don’t have to spend time in the grocery store reading labels. Homemade mayo. Cooked chicken. Canned coconut milk. I know what I need and I either have it or I know where to get it.

Nutpods for coffee. Tessemae’s Ranch for everything. Coconut Secret coconut aminos replaces soy sauce. Red Boat fish sauce because umami.

I have PLENTY of delicious food choices these next 30 days so instead of mourning the foods I can’t have I can spend that energy in more productive ways. On the Big Picture goals. This is about more than food for me. It’s saying “yes” to things that add value to my life and the lives of those I love this year. It’s saying “no” to the things that drain me and negatively impact those I love. It’s canceling the noise. It’s more sleep. Better sleep. It’s moving more. It’s investing in relationships. And it’s about how, where and with who I choose to spend my time this year.

We’re not a “Paleo” family. My husband isn’t interested in it and my kids have pretzels and Goldfish and Kraft Mac & Cheese and buttered pasta. But not all the time! They eat veggies ALL. THE. TIME. Without any hint of a struggle. They eat chicken and fish and pork and beef. And eggs. Well, one of them does. So we’re aiming for moderation over here. But the sugar dragon is mine to slay, because it’s a b*tch and it trickles down. So I’m doing all of this meal planning keeping in mind that I also have 3 other mouths to feed. If we have spaghetti & meatballs then I’ll have spaghetti squash or zucchini noodles with them. If we have panko-crusted cod I’ll have mine without the crust. And I’ll double up on the veggies. NBD.

I’m still wading through the wet concrete that is having the kids home for 2+ weeks so I don’t remember what it was like for them to go to school and for me to have time to myself.
